SRF Abandons a Loyal Monk
A monk and minister for the SRF Church in Phoenix left the order and married.
The Board’s official judgment against him was harsh. When he requested permission to lead an SRF meditation group elsewhere in America, the Board, under the guidance of Tara and Daya, refused him, saying, “It might give other monks ideas.”
Swami Kriyananda was head of the SRF monks at the time, and was asked his opinion in the matter. He replied, “Most of our meditation group leaders are married. This monk has had more direct training in the teachings than many of them. Why not try to help him? What gain would there be for anyone in denying his request and refusing him our compassion?” Kriyananda’s suggestion was overruled.
